Research - John Simpson Kirkpatrick (the man & the donkey) Any information regarding the above and the Tyne Dock area of South Shields between 1892 and 1914 is sought for a local history research project. Special interest in tracing information about families who lived in the area before the First World War. Particularly: - Plater family and anyone related to the writer Alan Plater.
- Parkes family who lived in Byron Street and who emigrated to Australia before the First World War.
- William & Thomas Lowes - both worked at Readheads shipyard after the war.
- John Jackson - worked as a trimmer before the war.
- Descendants of school teachers at Tyne Dock, including:
Wonders, Robertson, Willis, Gedling, Irvine, Deaton, Smith, Winter, Dixon and Richardson. Also pupils in Mortimer Road School in the 1950’s where memorial services were held for Kirkpatrick. If you have any information, then please send an e-mail to the editor
