The book includes a short history of Newcastle and covers historical events in the past
and a general description of Newcastle.  The author gives an historical background to the floods, fires
and plagues that frequently visited Newcastle and Gateshead.  Also bear in mind that the book was written
not long after the event, there was a considerable amount of oral evidence which the author could draw upon.
